| I first airbrushed the white underpainting for this job, the camera overexposes colors so you may have to use your imagination sometimes. | Here I add color to the mural, mostly candies and transparent yellows. | I first lay down a mixture of red and yellow real loose to get the background flames. | I covered up the mural with some clear masking tape and then layed the background in the orange and then I put some candy apple red over the orange to give it dept. |
| This is kind of hard to see, but I put orange down again and then airbrush candy tangerine over the flames again, this builds depth. | Here is the flames after the tangerine candy. See how the flames are being pushed back? | Now I take bright yellow and put more flames in, but I don't cover the flames that I have already done. Since the paint is transparent, you can see the flames all the way to the bottom. You want to build depth. | Now I put tangerine candy over the "low parts" of the flames. |
Now I go over most of the flames with Pagan Gold Candy, this really makes the colors glow. It look so much better in person than it does in these pictures. |
Now I mix up some white/yellow mixture. This really pops over the under colors. These are the hot spots. |
I pull back the clear masking and using candies, blend the art into the background and get rid of any paintlines that may have built up. | Now I mix up some SG100 and some red/blue pearl and paint the ends of the flames, these pop when light hits them but are invisible otherwise. |
